Apple iPad: Present and Future King - it will take a long time if ever something beats it

Interesting article. When the competition finally comes out Apple already released iPad 2..

Apple’s complete integration of hardware, software, operating system and applications is a major piece of what makes the device a standout.

With no true rival to challenge it, the iPad will likely continue to dominate the tablet market for at least the next two years. According to new estimates from iSuppli, Apple’s (AAPL) device will claim 74.1 percent of the tablet market in 2010. And while that share is certain to slip as worthy competitors emerge, it won’t slip that much. By 2012 the iPad will still hold about 61.7 percent of the market, leaving the remainder to the horde of tablets following it.

  1. Ramon B. Nuez Jr.  RT @svartling Apple iPad: Present and Future King - it will take a long time if ever something beats it http://amplify.com/u/98vz It’s will be an up hill battle for many. The pundits can say that the iPad lacks in hardware. Fortunately, it makes very little difference. The iPad does one thing very well — it consumes media. The company also seems to have access to an endless supply of media.

We should see a handful Android tablets out for holiday. HP is talking about a webOS tablet in 2011. I know the Samsung and ViewSonic are heading to IFA in September to show off their tablets. Now these tablets should sport Android 3.0 and a bevy of I/O ports but content is king. I would say that publishers must stop focusing on building platform specific apps and focus their limited resources on building HTML5 platforms — which will be tablet-agnostic.

Now the burden will fall on the wireless pipe. At least in the US (free) WiFi has some level of ubiquity — Startbucks to McDonalds to Apple retail stores. When WiFi is unavailable we then look to wireless broadband and the network operators seem to be stepping up — Verizon with LTE, AT&T/T-Mobile with HSPA+ and Sprint with WiMAX.

There are plenty of moving parts but availability to content is the key.

    1. Svartling  @ramonbnuezjr Wow! Thanks for a really great comment. Yes I believe so too. It will be hard for others to compete if they can’t get content providers for their devices.

      1. Ramon B. Nuez Jr.  @svartling No thank-you. Because of you I have broken out of my American economy-centric frame of mind and have begun to look and understand what the other countries are doing. Not just G8 countries but BRIC and N-11, as well.
